Rates-of-obesity-in-the-United-States-2010

How did we become the sickest and most medicated people in the industrialized world while paying twice as much for healthcare? We know what the problem is (inflammation). We know when it started (the late ‘70s). We know where it happened first (North America). The missing piece of the puzzle is what are we doing to cause it?

IS A PLANT BASED DIET GOOD FOR US?

ROY WALFORD WHEN HE ENTERED THE BIODOME ON RIGHT; TWO YEARS LATER ON LEFT FROM SPRING CHICKEN, STAY YOUNG OR DIE TRYING, BY BILL GIFFORD For over 30 years, our government and health agencies have told us that the solution to obesity is to eat less, mostly plants, and move more. Anytime the subject of nutrition comes up, someone is sure to quote Michael Pollen’s meme, “Eat food, not too much, mostly plants.” The message has spread around the world and most people have…

The Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholz The Big Fat Surprise by Nina Teicholz This remarkable book should finally lay the lipid hypotheses of heart disease to rest. LAZY BONES BROTH AND BOUILLON CUBES: THE BEST MEDICINE

I wanted to take along something more nutritious than meal-replacement bars or powdered protein drinks on this year’s cruise. Whatever I took needed to be able to withstand some time in transit without refrigeration. I’d been working on this version of the traditional recipe for portable soup and thought it would be a good way to see how it held up. I froze some cubes of bone broth and packed them in an airtight container with a small ice pack. They were still cold when I put them in the refrigerator in my cabin, but…

IS THERE ALREADY A CURE FOR OSTEOPOROSIS?

I went in for a medical checkup yesterday since I hadn’t had any tests since 2010. Along with the standard regimen of tests, the doctor prescribed a bone-density scan. I’ve only had one, about 15 years ago, and my rank was almost 100% then, but if I am diagnosed with osteoporosis, he will probably suggest the usual treatment: calcium, vitamin D, and drugs like Fosamax (bisphosphonates) and Prolia (denosumab). Bones are constantly being remodeled, with new bone replacing old bone. These drugs work by altering the cycle to slow the…

WASHINGTON CONFERENCE TO CONFRONT THE CRISIS IN NUTRITION

default image

Dr. Richard Feinman has been diligently working behind the scenes to get the message out about the lack of research integrity in regard to carbohydrate restricted diets. He will be hosting a session on The Crisis in Nutrition today, March 15, at the Office of Research Integrity Conference in Washington DC. (You may remember when he solicited our personal success stories to be part of this presentation. Bloggers, Jimmy Moore, Tom Naughton, and Laura Dolson put together The Voice of the People, which will be presented by Tom.) The recent study…
